August / September 2006 - Angels...
Following a recent audition in New York – Boyd has just been announced as one of the lead roles in a world premiere musical theatre production - Angels.
This will be Boyd’s professional musical theatre debut and he is ecstatic to be doing it in a brand new show, on the famous 42nd St. – just off Broadway.
“Angels” tells the epic story of the ancient war between the Angels and Lucifer’s fallen minions. The conflict is told through the eyes of Serra, the Angel of Light. Though she is gifted with the power to control light with spectacular effect, she aspires for a more heroic role. Her ambition is manipulated by Lucifer, which results in tragic consequences to the Angels and the humans they protect.Serra must decide how far she is willing to go and what she must sacrifice to turn the tide in this celestial battle.
Boyd will be playing the role of the Zealot leader and also understudying Lucifer.
The production will be part of the New York Music Theatre Festival with performances beginning 20th of September…

June/July 2006 - MASTERWORKS FESTIVAL
The festival has been an INCREDIBLE experience – enriching in every sense of the word. The colleagues and mentors were world class and the whole experience has been truly life changing. Long days were spent rehearsing and staging Mozart’s ‘La Clemenza di Tito.’ I was understudy for the role of Tito – Emperor of Rome.
Our conductor was Miriam Burns, one of the conductors on staff of the New York Philharmonic, having been appointed by Kurt Masur. Our director was Dr Gerald Dolter, whose repertoire includes more than 80 professional operatic roles and more than 25 musical theatre portrayals as a bass. He is a National Metropolitan Opera Auditions winner, and has sung with many of the worlds top companies, including six seasons as the leading baritone with Germany’s Bremen Opera.
I was also able to take part in the dance program; playing the role of Benno in Act II of Swan Lake. The dance instructors included: Chamaine Hunter - principal dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Production Dance Supervisor for the Broadway production The Lion King, and dance coach and teacher for Cirque Du Soleil, and Celine Dion’s ‘A New Day’ at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas; Caleb Mitchell - currently in his 8th season with the Houston Ballet under Stanton Welch; Steve Rooks - Greg Reynolds Dance Quintet, the Mary Anthony Dance Theatre, Peter Sparling, Dancer’s Eye, Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble and principle dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company.
Special thanks to the staff and directors of CPAF and the Masterworks festival and especially those who made it possible for me to attend the festival…

May 2006 - Exciting News...
It’s all finally official - I can let you know details of my overseas plans.
First, and most exciting, I’m heading to Indiana USA to understudy the role of Tito in a production of Mozart’s opera ‘La Clemenza di Tito’. The production is part of the Masterworks Festival which brings together top artist from all over the world, from the various disciplines of opera, dance, drama, orchestra and piano.
Following that, I’ll be heading around the world– visiting New York, London, Paris, Milan, Rome and Vienna. I’ll be having a look around and also a sing for a few people.
It’s all happened rather fast. I leave on June 17th, so to raise some funds for the trip I’m putting on a concert and would love to you come along.

April 2006 - a few thoughts...
Hi folks –
Yes April already…. 25% of the year gone – have you made it what you wanted?
The first quarter of 2006 has been a wonderful time for me - working on some great projects with some great people.
In true performance industry style I recieved a call from my good friend and colleague Andrew Wailes, telling me he had been given 24 hours notice by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee to put together a vocal ensemble for the Closing Ceremony. We would be onstage most of the evening backing up some of Australia’s top musical acts - was I interested? With the ‘top musical acts’ turning out to be John Farnham, Ben Lee, the Body Rockers, Sarah Blasko and Dame Edna Everadge – I was in!
What followed was a frenzied week of rehearsing and up-to-the-minute ‘re-rehearsing’ as music was composed and rearranged throughout the week. Not to mention the nervous wait for our costumes which arrived ½ hour before our call to the stage Sunday evening.
Music memorised, costumes on - the night was a huge success and of course a lot of fun to be involved with.
Another highlight was being announced as one of eight grand finalists in the 2006 National Liederfest vocal competition. With a $12,600 prize pool, there was top competition from the 8 singers who came from all over Australia – a great opportunity and learning experience for myself.
As I’m writing this – The Royal Mebourne Philharmonic is preparing for and exciting concert which you must come along to Dvorak’s immortal Stabat Mater – check out the ‘Events’ page for more details.
Finally – i will be most likely heading overseas mid-year for some exciting projects – but I will let you know more about them once they are confirmed.
Thankyou all for you continued support…
Boyd
