Opera in the Park

The City of Stonnington is once again proud to present Opera in the Park, a FREE twilight concert.

Stonnington Mayor, Cr Claude Ullin says that Opera in the Park is one of the highlights of Council's free event calendar.

Opera in the Park is a wonderful opportunity for the entire family to enjoy musical styles they may not have experienced.

Bring your friends, family and neighbours along with a picnic and blanket to settle in for an evening of opera, operetta, musical theatre and a bit of rock in a celebration titled Nature Resplendent.

Celebrate the beauties of the sea, plants, animals and the natural phenomena in our environmentally conscious world through opera, operetta, musical theatre and a bit of rock!

Music will include excerpts from Madama Butterfly, The Gypsy Baron, La Cenerentola, The Mikado, Little Shop of Horrors, Turandot, Candide and many more….

A Postcard from Carlton - Una Cartolina da Carlton

Boyd will perform with the Melbourne based opera company More Than Opera in its family comedy A Postcard from Carlton for the Bendigo Summer Fiesta, in partnership with the Capital Theatre and the Bendigo Youth Choir. It will also head to Benalla in May and then to Shepparton in July 2007.

The production is directed by Belinda Saltmarsh and the cast is Tania Borg, Jaison Hoernel, Angela Lumicisi and Boyd.

The opera celebrates life in Carlton during the days when it was predominantly an Italian community. The artistic concept is to make a family opera with musical numbers short, tuneful and diverse. A songbook will be provided so that kids will be able to learn some of the numbers when they get home. The theme has been deliberately kept more generic than the typical fantasy kids stuff, but every child from five years old up, will be able to understand what’s going on. The costuming will show very clearly that the same singer plays various characters.
